A federal appeals court ruled today that the words “under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance are an appeal to patriotism, and not a statement of religion, and do not violate the separation of church and state. Although the very same court declared the pledge unconstitutional in 2002, today is a new era.
The Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals panel, located in San Francisco, made a completely separate ruling to uphold placement of national motto of, “In God We Trust” on all U.S. coins and currency. The court said the language is patriotic and ceremonial, not religious. As a nation, the United States has always been blessed by the Lord, and we continue to use His name, and proclaim His divinity in a righteouss way. God is letting his presence be known throughout our nation. From “Laus Deo” (Praise be to God) on the Washington Monument to “In God We Trust” on the tiniest penny, our nation is clearly making itself be known historically as one nation, under God.
